Blueborne Bluetooth Attack

Do you happen to use a modern computer? Do you happen to have a modern phone? Ever use Bluetooth in your car? There is a new disclosure affecting many devices that utilize bluetooth. Bluetooth is the short range wireless technology that allows you to listen to your phone in the car, through wireless headphones, and through wireless speakers.

The short: New vulnerabilities disclosed this week can allow an attacker (bad guy) to connect to your phone (and other devices) without your knowledge. The bad guy can then do things like activate your camera or outright steal data from your device without you knowing about it.

What do you need to do?

  1. Update your devices (Windows, Linux, Android, Etc…) using the built-in vendor update application.
  2. Turn off the Bluetooth functionality until you need to use it. Remember to turn it off again when not needed!
  3. Change the security settings of your devices so that Bluetooth requires a PIN to connect.
  4. Stay vigilant!
